I happen to have a speech impediment. It's really just a minor lisp that occasionally hijacks my confidence when I'm in the middle of any given conversation. It's actually not that big of a deal but it's certainly triggered anxiety at times and kept me from speaking in public whenever I could possibly avoid it.

Over the years, I've come out of my comfort zone to do radio interviews and podcast appearances, but those were few and far between. However, I've turned down MORE than I've actually committed to. It's a shame, too, because I've always thought that starting a YouTube channel would be something I would really enjoy. I just couldn't get over the sound of my own voice, or that ever-present worry that my lisp was going to kick in any moment and sorta "kill my cool."
It's silly, I know, but it's the truth. However, life is short and I am all about finding ways to better yourself, thinking outside the box, trying new things, and all that jazz. I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't commit to a passion project like a YouTube channel. So, it was time to come out of my comfort zone. Again.
In March 2021, I started watching all the videos I could about getting started with your own YouTube channel. I bought a Blue Microphone and learned how to use Audacity. And then I just started, because I knew if I kept putting it off, it'd never happen. I posted my first video on March 28.
I'm not ready to share my YouTube channel just yet, but I will be, soon. In case you're wondering, the channel focuses on film critique.
As of the writing of this blog post, I have posted another dozen videos on the channel and I'm so proud of myself for finally doing this. Even though I have less than 20 subscribers at the moment, I don't care. That's not the point. I'm excited to see what the future brings with my channel, even if I never crack a hundred subs. I'm doing something I enjoy, that's what matters. If you've ever wanted to start something like a podcast or a YouTube channel, don't wait...start TODAY!
